A new loungewear collection inspired by Fiji’s traditional kalavata has been introduced across three FNPF-owned IHG properties: InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, and Holiday Inn Suva. The project is a collaboration with Fiji-based fashion brand Malia Clothing Fiji, led by designer Natalia Bentley Larsen.
The kalavata-inspired range includes coordinated pyjama sets for adults and children, soft island-themed bathrobes, and matching scrunchies. It is available exclusively to guests staying at the participating hotels.
The concept of kalavata—which translates to “colour together”—is deeply rooted in Fijian culture and represents unity and shared identity. Traditionally worn during weddings, celebrations and important gatherings, kalavata continues to be a strong visual expression of community and belonging. The collection aims to reinterpret this cultural tradition in a modern format through comfortable resort loungewear.
Natalia Larsen, who was born and raised in Fiji, is the founder and creative director of Malia Clothing Fiji. Her designs are known for combining traditional Pacific motifs with contemporary fashion elements. This latest collaboration continues that ethos, drawing inspiration from classic Bula prints and island colour palettes.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the IHG properties to incorporate local talent and cultural storytelling into the guest experience. Lachlan Walker, Regional General Manager – Fiji & Pacific, noted that the partnership aligns with the hotels’ ongoing focus on showcasing local artistry and enhancing cultural connections for visitors.
The loungewear pieces are designed and made in Fiji, with all prints developed by the Malia team. Guests can purchase the items at each hotel’s boutique or request them through guest services.
This collection serves as a memento of guests’ time in Fiji, combining comfort with cultural appreciation and offering a locally-designed reminder of the islands’ warmth and hospitality.
