Grand Pacific Hotel Shines a Light on World Cancer Day

IHG 4 February 2022 – Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, an InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) hotel today supported the World Cancer Society by projecting the building in colours of orange and blue as part of World Cancer Day.

A global event and the first for Fiji, through Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), cities around the world signal their commitment to the global challenge of cancer by lighting up their major landmarks on 4 February in the World Cancer Day colours of orange and blue.

“To support and contribute towards local charities into driving initiatives as such is key for IHG Hotels & Resorts. We are proud to be associated with the Fiji Cancer Society who are a leading organisation pledging to work towards increasing public awareness about cancer and cancer prevention and the Union for International Cancer Control in shining the light of World Cancer Day through the colours on our iconic Grand Pacific Hotel,” commented Lachlan Walker, Area General – South Pacific. “Everyone knows somebody affected by cancer, including our colleagues, their families and their friends, so we are very proud to be part of raising awareness and showing support.”

Grand Pacific Hotel with the Fiji Cancer Society organised the event and hosted Minister of Health and Medical Services (MoHMS) Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete, Suganda Goswami who shared her experiences as a cancer survivor, acting British High Commissioner Paul Welsh, Belinda Chan and Makarava Wilson from the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS).

The celebration took place in the Rara Lounge where guests witnessed the lighting of the iconic building that provided a breath-taking and dramatic display of support followed by a hosted cocktail.

Colleagues including from Holiday Inn Suva as part of the initiative also took a health walk around Albert Park at 1PM that helped raise awareness and supported a healthy lifestyle.

From one of the seven wonders of the world, Petra, to the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul linking Asia and Europe, to the architectural wonder of the City of the Arts and Sciences Museum in Valencia, Spain, to the stately Royal Opera House in Muscat, and to the iconic Empire State Building, these landmarks signalled their commitment to the global challenge of cancer. Grand Pacific Hotel is proud to be part of this initiative and the first historic building in Fiji to participate.

Led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), World Cancer Day is the single initiative that unites and rallies the world’s voices to raise awareness of cancer in a truly positive and inspiring way.
