Fiji Times Saturday 21 October 2017 TWO foreign fishing vessels were rummaged by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) seizing several undeclared goods and livestock.
FRCS chief executive officer Visvanath Das said the fishing vessels were profiled as high risk by Customs officers upon arrival and were searched for smuggled items.
He confirmed that officers from the FRCS maritime compliance team seized undeclared goods which included live dogs, cigarettes, and liquor and R22 gas cylinders which was an ozone depleting substance.
“The assessment by the officers was proven correct as undeclared items and nine dogs were found on the vessel,” Mr Das said in a statement.
“Our officers notified Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) regarding the undeclared dogs and handed over the R22 cylinders to Department of Environment.
