Strong Interest in Fiji at Tourism Expo in New Zealand

Media Release – 22 October, 2019

Fiji had a strong presence at several trade partner consumer expos in New Zealand over the last two months, attending the Flight Centre Expo in Auckland and the House of Travel Bazaars in Waikato, Christchurch and Bay of Plenty.

The Flight Centre Expo in Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and most comprehensive travel show that allows exhibitors to showcase destinations, attractions, activities, products and services from around the world. The most recent one on the 21-22 September 2019 had over 1,700 New Zealanders book Fiji experiences with Flight Centre.

Tourism Fiji attended the Flight Centre Expo with five Fijian industry partners — Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa, The Naviti Resort, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort/Castaway Island Resort, South Sea Cruises and Warwick Fiji — and collectively promoted Fiji to over 9,000 New Zealanders in attendance.

Simultaneously, five additional Fijian industry partners represented Fiji at the House of Travel Bazaar in Christchurch. They included Treasure Island Resort, Captain Cook Cruises, Plantation Island Resort, Blue Lagoon Cruises and Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort/Castaway Island.

Two weeks later, Tourism Fiji travelled to the Bay of Islands with South Sea Cruises and Captain Cook Cruise representors for the House of Travel Bazaar in the Bay of Plenty on the 5 October 2019.

Both House of Travel Bazaars were deemed a success, with Kiwis in attendance predominately booking their Fiji holidays for next June 2020, with an equal split across the Coral Coast, Mamanuca Islands and Nadi regions.

“New Zealand is the second largest tourism source market for Fiji and a very important one for us,” said Tourism Fiji Regional Manager New Zealand, Mrs. Sonya Lawson.

“We’re happy to see the high level of interest and support from our Fijian industry partners. Fiji is a popular destination for New Zealanders. The friendly and welcoming people, close proximity and diverse range of experiences and activities makes it ideal for Kiwis,” continued Lawson.
