New Medical Vessel To Boost Northern Lau Group Services

Fiji Sun Wednesday 06 September 2017  A new medical vessel   given to the Vanubalavu Hospital will assist medical officers on the island visit the eight islands in Northern Lau.

The vessel will transport doctors, dentists and nurses for regular community clinics. Communities will now have access to the integrated medical services.

The handover was conducted when New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Mark Ramsden’s and Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Alex O’Connor’s visited Vanuabalavu on August 30.

The old vessel which used to service the islands ‘MD Robyn’, was badly damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston in February last year, including her two engines.

MD Robyn was donated to the hospital by Mago Island, which has offered to assist in getting her back in the water and service.

The New Zealand High Commission under its small grants scheme assisted with the installation of two Yamaha engines and Blue Water Craft the hull.
