Fiji Times Thursday 15 June 2017 CREDIT card holders in Fiji who have evidence of any incorrect levy charges maybe eligible to apply for a refund from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority.
A public notice from the Association of Banks in Fiji and FRCA in the daily newspapers advised bank credit card holders in Fiji to contact their bank if they had evidence that they were incorrectly charged 2 per cent credit card levy.
This was welcomed by the Consumer Council of Fiji however the CEO Premila Kumar said consumers should not be the victims in this case in terms of paying their banks to get their statements again.
Ms Kumar said the council on behalf of the consumers had raised this issue with FRCA, RBF and also through the Complaints Management Forum for consumer justice and after four and half years of continuous lobbying, FRCA decided to provide the redress.
The levy which was introduced in 2013 allowed commercial banks to charge credit card holders a 2 per cent levy on their monthly outstanding balance. The levy was then remitted to FRCA by the banks. Read more…
