Fiji Times Tuesday 26 September 2017 TRADE unions are only after workers’ financial deductions, claims Acting Prime Minister, Minister for Civil Service and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
He claimed this after a security officer raised his concern about the low weekly wages paid to him by a security company in Savusavu.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, who was at Yaroi Village yesterday at the civil servants consultation on their new contracts, said trade unionists were more interested in bigger companies or State-owned enterprises.
“Exploitation takes place in private sectors and unions are absent from private sectors except very few unions are involved in private sectors,” he said.
“Most unions want to work with State-owned enterprises or civil service because they are after your deductions.
“I am being frank, they are after your deductions and this is reality.”
