8 August 2025 – Mana Island Resort & Spa – Fiji has officially launched its pioneering Sports Tourism initiative with the opening of Yawini Sports Park, now formally recognised as an authorised rugby ground by the Fiji Rugby Union. This milestone also designates the venue as the official home ground of the Malolo Rugby Union, signalling the start of what the resort has called Mana’s New Era in sport, culture and community engagement.
The new rugby field, which measures 100 metres by 68 metres, meets the Fiji Rugby Union’s national standards, enabling it to host competitive matches and training sessions at both national and international levels. This achievement not only enhances local sporting infrastructure but also creates new opportunities to inspire youth participation and regional pride.
The opening ceremony on 7 August 2025 brought together dignitaries and community leaders, including representatives from the Fiji Rugby Union, the Malolo Rugby Union, and Momo na Tui Lawa, the traditional chief of the Mamanuca Islands. Their attendance reflected the cultural, social and sporting significance of the development, underscoring its role in bringing people together through shared tradition and athletic achievement.
This initiative is part of Mana Island Resort & Spa – Fiji’s long-standing commitment to supporting the local Vanua through youth development, cultural preservation and community empowerment. The resort’s philosophy, “For the Future”, continues to guide its investment in programmes that promote physical wellbeing, celebrate Fijian heritage, and create opportunities for personal growth. This includes supporting sports beyond rugby such as netball, volleyball, soccer, open water swimming and kayaking, as well as cultural activities including Meke dance, eco-tours, kava bowl making and coconut product demonstrations.
In addition to promoting sport and culture, Mana Island Resort & Spa – Fiji remains dedicated to environmental protection and community health initiatives, including cancer support. Its approach to tourism focuses on building strong, sustainable connections between visitors and the local community, ensuring that the benefits of tourism extend far beyond the resort itself.
The launch of Yawini Sports Park is more than the opening of a rugby field. It represents a broader vision of holistic development, cultural pride and resilience. By integrating sport, tradition and sustainability, Mana Island Resort & Spa – Fiji continues to demonstrate leadership in creating meaningful experiences for guests while delivering lasting benefits to the people of the Mamanuca Islands.
