Friday 8 March 2024 – Fijian females once again have the chance to gain assistance for their studies with the annual Westpac Women and Girls Education Grant about to launch for 2024. Aimed at providing financial support to women and girls to further their educational pursuits, the grant program is divided into three categories; Primary, Secondary and Tertiary (or Adult Learners).
Westpac is encouraging women and girls to take note of this year’s categories and the new themes pertaining to each one, and start preparing to put forward their nominations from April. Westpac works with various local stakeholders to ensure students across Fiji have access and ample time and support to create their submissions. Primary school winners receive a total of $500, Secondary $1,000 and Tertiary or Adult Learners get $2,500.
Fiji Chief Executive Shane Smith said, “We’ve run this particular program for 14 consecutive years now and are proud to continue supporting women and girls of Fiji. Last year we received over one thousand applications from all across Fiji with a large majority being from online applications – which expands our reach as well as in a sustainable way.”
This year, Primary School participants are asked to “Show us what your best world would look like: where girls are given the support they need to succeed”.
Secondary school participants are asked to expand on “What ‘count her in. Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress mean to them and how they would bring this to life in Fiji.”
And lastly, tertiary/adult learners are asked to “Share an experience you’ve encountered or witnessed in Fiji that has shown how investing in women and girls helped to accelerate progress”.
