SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER FIVE FOR HEAVY RAIN ISSUED FROM RSMC NADI AT 2PM ON MONDAY THE 20TH OF FEBRUARY, 2017.

HEAVY RAIN WARNING

A HEAVY RAIN WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR YASAWA GROUP, VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, NORTHERN LAU GROUP AND KADAVU AND IS NOW IN FORCE FOR THE EASTERN PARTS OF VITI LEVU.

A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE REST OF FIJI.

SITUATION:

TROPICAL DISTURBANCE TD12F LIES TO THE FAR WEST OF FIJI AND IS MOVING WESTWARDS FURTHER AWAY FROM FIJI.

MEANWHILE, ANOTHER SHALLOW TROPICAL DISTURBANCE 14F WITH ASSCIATED ACTIVE TROUGH OF CLOUD AND RAIN LIES TO THE FAR NORTHWEST OF FIJI AND IS MOVING SOUTHEAST TOWARDS THE GROUP. IT IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE NORTHERN PARTS OF THE GROUP FROM TONIGHT. THE POTENTIAL FOR TD12F AND TD14F TO DEVELOP INTO A TROPICAL CYCLONE OVER FIJI WATERS IS LOW( 5-20%).

MEANWHILE, ANOTHER TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE AFFECTS THE SOUTHERN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.

FORECAST: FOR YASAWA GROUP, EASTERN PARTS OF VITI LEVU, VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU GROUP AND KADAVU: OCCASIONAL SHOWERS, HEAVY AT TIMES AND FEW THUNDERSTORMS. SHOWERS INCREASING TO RAIN , BECOMING FREQUENT AND HEAVY WITH SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS FROM TONIGHT.

FOR THE REST OF FIJI: OCCASIONAL SHOWERS WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY FALLS. SHOWERS POSSIBLY INCREASING TO RAIN AND BECOMING FREQUENT AND HEAVY WITH SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS FROM LATER TOMORROW.

LOCALISED HEAVY RAIN MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING IN THESE AREAS.
