Promising growth prospects from sports tourism

Fiji Times Thursday 06 July 2017  A NUMBER of international sporting tournaments which will be staged in Fiji later this year shows a promising growth prospect for Fiji’s tourism sector, particularly sports tourism.

Tourism Minister Faiyaz Koya, in an interview with this newspaper, said Fiji’s growing sports tourism portion out of Australia and New Zealand would also be a key area of focus on in the new 2017/2018 financial year.

One key sporting event to be held in Fiji later this year is the Fiji International which will culminate professional golfers and sporting enthusiasts from all over the world at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.

“The Fiji International is the region’s largest international sporting event that provides Fiji the golden opportunity to further expand its horizons on to the world stage,” Mr Koya said.

And with the event’s recent expansion after a landmark agreement to include the Asian Tour as a new tri-sanctioning partner alongside the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour would be another achievement of Fiji’s sports tourism.  Read more…
