Be Proactive, Constructive In Meeting: Usamate

Be Proactive, Constructive In Meeting: Usamate

Fiji Sun Saturday 21 October 2017  Effective dialogue is the key in any employment relationship to foster harmonious working relations and build productive employment relationships.

These were sentiments by Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate.

Mr Usamate was commenting on the “secret ballot” for strike undertaken by Federated Airline Staff Association (FASA) against Air Terminal Services (ATS).

He stressed that the ministry would continue to encourage parties to meet and dialogue as good faith dialogue is the cornerstone to a productive working relationship and is key to maintaining relationships.

The ministry also encourages the parties to be proactive and constructive in meeting and dealing with each other on the issues affecting them.

Recent reports that the ministry should have supervised the secret ballot for strike were refuted by the ministry as the ballot was not done according to law and that any resulting strike would be unlawful.

“The parties are encouraged to meet and dialogue in good faith to reach an amicable solution and understanding,” Mr Usamate said.
