The Fiji Times, 21 February 2018 – A high-level training held in partnership between the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) and Maritime New Zealand will see the appointment of “on-scene commanders” responsible for managing and co-ordinating oil spills in Fiji waters.
The three-day training, which began yesterday at the Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd, had two experts from New Zealand teaching participants on the use and maintenance of oil spill equipment.
MSAF chief executive officer John Tunidau said Fiji had Tier I, II and III oil spill response equipment in Suva, Lautoka, Levuka and Labasa. The equipment will enable Fiji to respond to spills should it occur. Read more…
