Fiji Sun, April 4th – The declaration of Port Denarau Marina in Nadi as a new port of entry is a step into the right direction, so says Nadi Chamber of Commerce president Dr Ram Raju.
“The new port of entry means thawt there will be more tourists coming onto our shores,” Dr Raju said.
“There will be more economic activity, more employment, more developments and more opportunities,” he said yesterday.“We welcome the move and it means a lot to Nadi.
“This is a step into the right direction, an additional port of entry for Fiji and also marks a new era for Nadi, this is a plus for the tourism industry too.”Dr Raju said more cruise liners would mean more activities and advantages to the people of the Jetset town.
“Business in Nadi will bloom with the Port Denarau Marina declared as a port of entry, we are very pleased here at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce as this will definitely mean more development and we hope for good results in the future,” he said. Dr Raju said would also add as a plus to efforts in trying to declare Nadi as a city.
Last month the after a decade the Port Denarau Marina was declared Fiji’s newest port of entry in the 2017/2018 Fiji Government budget at the end of June. Port Denarau Marina Ltd is Fiji’s leading marina facility and the busiest commercial port in Fiji.
The port is recognised by the Marina Industry Association as the International Marina of the Year for four consecutive years, winner of Community Support Initiative by a marina and awarded first Clean and Fish Friendly Marina in the Pacific.
In the past few months Port Denarau Marina was working with Government agencies to ensure that the processes were in place to ensure a seamless clearance inwards and outwards from port Denarau Marina for vessels that have overnight bookings. Operation hours for port of entry clearance are: Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.
All yachts arriving in Fiji must give the Controller of Customs two days prior notice by completing and forwarding the Advance Notification of Arrival using the C2-C form.
Although, Fiji Revenue and Customs Services (FRCS) is the principal agency, it is practical to send the forms to the following multi-agencies.
As part of clearance procedures, Fiji Customs request visiting yachts to subscribe to and activate AIS while in Fiji Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) waters.
