Fiji Times Thursday 28 September 2017 THERE is still a lot of upgrading needed to airport infrastructure around the country, says Civil Aviation Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
While speaking to Airports Fiji Ltd staff members in Nadi yesterday, he said AFL had a large amount of work to do in terms of improving airport services in its large network across the country.
“Just because you have made a large amount of profit in a year does not mean that you are suddenly very rich. You still have a lot of infrastructure work left to be done,” he said.
“Rotuma is an ongoing project and at a cost of $13 million.
“We still have to extend the runway at Taveuni where we have to sort our land requisition, but once that is done and have a longer runway, we will be able to get bigger ATR aircraft to Taveuni.
“The economy of Taveuni will become more robust when we get more people to visit the area.
“And now we are putting night flights in Labasa and we are extending the Nausori airport. All of these things cost money.” Read more…
