InterContinental Fiji Reactivates Community Fund

16 February 2023 (Natadola, Fiji): InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa has reactivated and re-energised the ‘Community Care Fund’ program where guests staying at the Natadola Resort can opt-in to donate FJ$2.00 per room per night.

All the funds collected through this initiative go towards the improvement of the education, well-being, sustainability, and infrastructure of the local community.

“Guided by IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow 10-year action plan on fostering a respectful and responsible culture, InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is committed to supporting our local community and positively improving the lives of our people,” commented Lachlan Walker, Area General – South Pacific, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.

“Our team has been actively working with various local stakeholders and international tourists since the resort opened in 2009 to invest in projects to improve the lives of people living in Natadola and surrounding villages. We ceased the Community Care
Fund during COVID however we are delighted to restart it again as it aims to help our communities thrive and shape the future of responsible travel to the region.”

In previous years, InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa team members have invested Community Care Funds and volunteered to
help improve Malomalo Primary School by painting buildings, repairing broken chairs and desks, replacing rusty window frames and installing a new roof. In September 2011, electricity and water were also connected to the school and more notably the construction
and opening of a brand-new kindergarten at the school.

The FJ$70,000.00 kindergarten project was jointly funded by the Fiji Water Foundation and donations from past resort guests. Designed and built to Australian standards with a ‘jungle theme’, the preschool inspires the children’s imagination outside of their typical environment.

COMMUNITY CARE FUND
All Community Care funding will be invested in 4 key areas:
Education
Wellbeing
Environmental Sustainability
Infrastructure

The fund will be managed by the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa Sustainability Committee. This committee includes a group of volunteers from different departments such as Engineering, Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing, Finance, HR, Security and Activities.

The Sustainability Committee meets once a month to track the progress of initiatives, consider new initiatives and ensure staff members and guests are given the opportunity to participate. Transparency and reporting on the use of collected funds is a critical aspect for the Committee.
