Intellectual property theft challenges

Fiji Times Tuesday 26 September 2017  WITH growth comes challenges and this is no different for several sectors and industries of any economy.

For Fiji’s fashion sector, which is currently in a nascent stage of development, all levels of the creative value chain will need to be addressed in order to address this challenges.

And this can be done through initiatives such as a holistic development program, backed with proper support from government and bi and multi-lateral organisations.

According to Fashion Council of Fiji (FCF) chairman Faraz Ali, Fiji’s fashion industry is often fret with alleged theft of a few designers intellectual property.

Because of this, Mr Ali said, the council called on textile, clothing and footwear producers to work with them on the issue of intellectual property.

“We require their co-operation to ensure that our designers’ textile work is protected in order that their businesses are also protected and allowed to grow,” he said.  Read more…
