GPH Marks World Cancer Day with Landmark Lighting and Fundraising

Suva, Fiji. 6 February 2026 – The Grand Pacific Hotel Suva marked World Cancer Day by lighting its landmark façade in orange and blue on Wednesday, 4 February, joining a global landmark lighting initiative that brings visibility to cancer awareness efforts worldwide.

Observed annually on 4 February, World Cancer Day unites communities around prevention, early detection, treatment and care. The Grand Pacific Hotel Suva first participated in the landmark lighting initiative in 2022 and has continued its involvement each year as a visible show of solidarity with individuals and families affected by cancer.

Lighting one of the South Pacific’s most recognisable heritage buildings in the official World Cancer Day colours placed Fiji alongside hundreds of landmarks internationally, reinforcing the country’s participation in a coordinated global movement.

The landmark lighting was delivered in partnership with the Fiji Cancer Society, with the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva hosting the event and providing venue support and light refreshments for invited guests, community representatives and media.

In parallel, FNPF owned IHG hotels in Fiji extended their support through Cup of Kindness, a monthly community initiative implemented across InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel Suva and Holiday Inn Suva. Under the programme, all proceeds from nominated coffee sales are donated to local organisations delivering direct community benefit.

In January 2026, Cup of Kindness supported the Fiji Cancer Society during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, with a dedicated coffee sale held on 23 January. A second Cup of Kindness coffee sale is taking place today, Friday 6 February, following World Cancer Day. Together, the two events are expected to raise approximately $5,000 in support of the Society’s education, awareness and patient support programmes across Fiji.

Landmark lighting and community initiatives such as Cup of Kindness form part of IHG’s wider commitment to responsible business under its Journey to Tomorrow framework, which focuses on improving lives in the communities where the company operates.

World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control and is marked each year by organisations, governments and communities around the world through awareness campaigns, advocacy and landmark lighting events.
