Fiji Times Tuesday 05 September 2017  Update: 3:32PM ONE of Fiji’s major cement manufacturer Pacific Cement Limited (PCL) will shut down its plant for three weeks beginning this month to carry out major repair works.

It has been confirmed that all required parts have reached the plant and the company expects at least 15 engineers and technicians from Australia and New Zealand to work on the repairs.

PCL director Sowani Tuidrola said PCL had imported 25,000 tons of cement from Vietnam to ease the increase in market demand.

He said this shipment would arrive in Fiji in two days time.

He also confirmed that the vessel would unload 8000 tons in Lautoka and the rest in Suva.

“We have been producing at 85 per cent for the last two months and have produced and sold more than 22,000 tons of cement,” Mr Tuidrola said.

He said during the three weeks of factory closure, the plant would install a brand new cement mill motor, trunnion gear, dust collectors and sile sensors.
