Fiji Times Thursday 03 August 2017 THE Environment Climate Application Levy will enable Fiji’s international visitors to help in the protection of the environment, says Minister for Climate Change and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
He said the levy, which came into effect on August 1, would go towards climate change related projects.
“ECAL is of course applicable if you stay at a hotel or when you get a rental car, etc,” he said.
“We anticipate through the ECAL levy, in which plastic bags have very little contribution towards in terms of revenue generation, but despite that we expect ECAL to collect about $90 million in this coming financial year.
“We are also required by law that all this access needs to be clearly set out separately in the Bill (Bill 29). Read more…
