Key Facts:
* Total visitors arrivals are down by -1.3% compared to the same period last year.
* Up: USA 14.6%, Canada 4.3%, Continental Europe 1.9%, Japan 243.8%, Rest of Asia 1.4%, Pacific Islands 3.1% and others 12.6%
* Down: Australia -8.8%, New Zealand -4.2%, United Kingdom -0.2%, China -10.3%, South Korea -18.6%
* FYI – Australian tourist arrivals decreases for the past 3 months as compared to a year earlier.
January down by -1.6% , February down by -9.0% and March down by -8.8%.

FBoS, 22 March 2019 – Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for February 2019 totaled 48,748, a slight decrease of 0.1% compared to a year earlier.

There were decreases in the number of visitors from;

FBoS Release No.09 Seasonally Adjusted Visitor Arrivals December 2018

Seasonally adjusted estimates: Seasonally Adjusted estimates show the trend and irregular components after removing all seasonal and systematic related behaviors from the series. During December 2018, seasonally adjusted Total Visitor Arrivals to Fiji (73,642) increased by 2.93% compared with November 2018 (71,545).

FBoS Release No.101 Provisional Visitor Arrivals – November 2018

Provisional numbers show that for November 2018 totalled 64,989, a decrease of 0.2% compared to a year earlier.

Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 75.5% of total arrivals, 10.1% came to visit their friends and relatives 3.6% came for business purposes, while 10.8% visited Fiji for other reasons.

The visitor arrival by country and number were as follows;

1) Australia –  with 29,828 visitors
2) New Zealand –with 12,631 visitors
3) United States of America – with 6,913 visitors
4) China –  with 2,794 visitors
5) United Kingdom –  with 1,145 visitors

Provisional numbers show that for October 2018 totalled 79,077, a record for the month of October and represented an increase of 1.2% compared to a year earlier.

Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 78.4% of total arrivals, 7.2% came to visit their friends and relatives 3.7% came for business purposes, while 10.7% visited Fiji for other reasons.

The visitor arrival by country and number were as follows;

1) Australia –  with 34,899 visitors
2) New Zealand –with 18,562 visitors
3) United States of America – with 7,004 visitors
4) China –  with 4,013 visitors
5) United Kingdom –  with 1,379 visitors

Provisional numbers show that 88,693 visitors arrived into the country in August 2018. The number was a record for the month of August and represents an increase of 7.7% compared to a year earlier.

The majority of visitors to Fiji in August 2018 were in the age range 25-64 (66.2%), which accounts for the vast majority of the working age population.

The visitor arrival by country and number were as follows;

1) Australia –  with 34,641 visitors
2) New Zealand –with 24,065 visitors
3) United States of America – with 7,727 visitors
4) China –  with 4,970 visitors
5) United Kingdom –  with 1,486 visitors

Provisional Visitor Arrivals from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) show that visitor arrivals for April 2018 totalled 63,535, a decrease of 7.2% compared to a year earlier. Flights to and from Fiji were cancelled for 3 and a half days in April due to Tropical Cyclones Josie and Keni.

Visitor Arrivals increase for Jan-March 2018

Fiji Times, 24 April: Visitor arrivals to Fiji increased by 5.1 per cent over the January to March period of this year, up from 163,226 to 171,504 arrivals when compared with the corresponding period in 2017.

The Provisional Visitor Arrivals for March 2018 released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBOS) noted that the March arrivals also experienced a 10.4 per cent increase in the number of tourists visiting Fiji.

Provisional numbers provided by the bureau this month showed that visitor arrival for March totalled 60,058, which was an increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the data, majority of visitors to Fiji over the January to March period of this year were mainly from Australia and New Zealand, the country’s traditional tourist source markets. Other visitors were from USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Continental Europe and China. The data further analysed showed that majority of the visitors were in the age range of 25 to 64 (64.8 per cent), which accounted for the majority working age population.

National room occupancy rate up by 0.5 pc

National room occupancy rate up by 0.5 pc

The Fiji Times, 06 January 2018 – THE room occupancy rate for hotels and tourist accommodations in the country increased by 0.5 per cent during the third quarter of 2017 to 57.4 per cent.

This was highlighted in the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) Provisional Hotels and Tourist Accommodation data for the third quarter of last year.

In its survey of licensed hotels, resorts and lodging houses, the bureau noted a 5.3 per cent increase (26,899) in the number of rooms sold while 4.4 per cent (39,183) rooms were available during the review period. Read more…

$530.7m in earnings

The Fiji Times, 06 January 2018 – FIJI’S tourism sector raked in $530.7 million in earnings during the September quarter of last year, an increase of 27.5 per cent over the same quarter of 2016.

This was highlighted by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) while releasing the statistics on Fiji’s earnings from tourism indicating the spending of our international visitors.

According to the FBoS, the 27.5 per cent increase in the September quarter was $111.4m over the September quarter of 2016. Read more…
