Bad governance led to hotel’s fall

Grand Pacific Hotel

FBC News Monday 12 June 2017  A culture of fear and intimidation led to the downfall of the previous management at the iconic Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. Strong claims of harassment of staff were brought before the Government in 2015 and has now been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs for recommendations. GPH General Manager, Peter Gee told the Committee today that the previous hotel general manager, Eugen Diethelm and his management had instilled bad governance within the hotel.  “It was early days and I think it took a little bit of time to settle in and settle down but I really want to stress that we’re talking history now. We’re talking over two years ago.” Gee says issues of unfair dismissal and division within staff that led to bullying were a few issues raised by employees.  The committee will present its recommendations on the petition in Parliament next month.
