The Fiji Times, 20 June 2017 – THE national minimum wage rate continues to be a topic of intense debate.
Several schools of thought have been expressed as to what should be the decent living wage for our workers with some proposing rates up to $5 per hour while others are advocating the need to weigh both the needs of workers and their dependents and the capacity of the businesses to absorb the extra cost when fixing the rate.
I guess the conundrum is how to determine the rate that will adequately meet both concerns without marginalising the interest of the other. Read more…
