Tourism Fiji Promotes Wellness and Civic Pride on World Tourism Day

Media Release – Friday 27th September

Tourism Fiji staff participated in a cleanup initiative yesterday afternoon to mark World Tourism Day which is annually celebrated on 27th September.

The team walked the 3-kilometre stretch to promote a litter free walkway this afternoon. One group began at FNU while the other started at Challenge Plaza and walked to the Namaka Market.

Leading the Tourism Fiji team, Mr. James Pridgeon (Niche Experiences Manager) said, “The Government has done a lot to help discourage and curb the use of plastic bags and littering in Fiji. We took World Tourism Day as an opportunity to reinforce this stance and keep our environment clean.”

“We hope more people and businesses located along this stretch of road will continue to support our efforts in keep Fiji beautiful. Plus, it’s a great team-bonding exercise that combines wellness and spreading that Bula Spirit to our fellow Fijians,” Mr Pridgeon reiterated.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) says over the last few years the Tourism Industry has continued to diversify and expand, and it expects that tourism will continue to grow at an average of 3% annually until 2030. The theme for 2019 is “Tourism and Jobs – a better future for all.”
