Thursday, 12 December 2019 – The St Christopher’s Home for Children in Suva received a welcome boost today, Thursday 12th December 2019, when the proceeds from the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) Charity Golf Tournament was presented by FHTA CEO and Board Director, Peter Gee to St Christopher’s Sister-in-charge, Sister Kalolaine, with the Home’s Board member Renu Chand and Norman Wise.
While presenting the Cheque of $25,231 at a small ceremony held at the FHTA office in Suva, Mrs Lockington said, “The funds will go towards the construction in Suva of the new Moana Boys Home for young male orphans. Currently, young males are required to leave the orphanage in Suva and move to the orphanage facilities for older boys in Ba from the age of 12.”
“This means they lose the critical support from their siblings, which can adversely impact their developmental, educational, social and mental health needs. We believe that keeping families together as much as possible, while maintaining stability during their formative years, is a goal that the St Christopher’s Home needs our support and the support of everyone else to help realize”.
The funds were raised at the FHTA Charity Golf Day, held on Saturday 9th November 2019 at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club following FHTA’s HOTEC Tradeshow.
“After a lapse of four years, we were pleased to resurrect this charity event knowing that the monies raised will benefit a deserving organisation with a noble cause,”said the FHTA CEO.
“As well as the participation by corporate teams in support of the Charity Golf, we are really appreciative of the wonderful support and generosity from the tourism stakeholders for our tournament prizes. The included national airline Fiji Airways who sponsored the first prize of four, business return tickets to any Fiji Airways destination,” said Mrs Lockington.
