Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, 01 April 2019 – All Radisson Hotels worldwide join the yearly movement of thousands of households and businesses across the globe to celebrate Earth Hour, an environmental initiative supported by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
On Saturday 30th March, Radisson Blu Resort Fiji took the opportunity of Earth Hour to engage guests, employees and business partners in its pursuit for energy savings by organizing a variety of fun activities around a ‘lights out’ initiative in the resort. In-room letters were delivered to guests to support the campaign and put lights out in their rooms. All non-essential lights were also switched off around the
resort for Earth Hour and guests were encouraged to join the celebrations held at the resorts Waterfall Lawn.
The new rebranding philosophy for Radisson Hotel Group is set on creating exceptional experiences to make ‘Every Moment Matter’ for guests, owners and talent. With this concept in mind, the yearly celebration of Earth Hour began with an opening Fire Show on the resorts very own waterfall. This exciting and spectacular fire show was fitting for the launch of Earth Hour, with the presence of in-house guests, neighboring residents, employees and students and staff from Vunayasi District School.
Also included in the special programme organized by the resorts Responsible Business Committee was a countdown to Earth Hour followed by a candle lighting ceremony to outline the Earth Hour symbol on the lawn, choir singing and entertainment by the Vunayasi students and traditional Fijian activities for guests to participate.
“Responsible business is an essential part of the Radisson Group of Hotels vision and this yearly event is celebrated by all 1,400 hotels in Radisson Hotel Group Worldwide. Aside from our yearly support with Earth Hour, we are active members in helping our local community through our Adopt a School and Community Outreach program,” says Charles Homsy, General Manager of the Radisson Blu Resort Fiji.
“We have taken other measures to positively impact our local community and be recognized as a responsible and innovative organization with the investment on having the largest roof mounted solar power system in the Southern Hemisphere which continues to provide the hotel with energy savings over the years,” says Charles Homsy.
Other active eco-conscious measures have been adopted by the resort such as water and waste management initiatives, the removal of single use plastic by the Food and Beverage Department by switching to paper alternatives, also ensuring certification by ‘EarthCheck Pty Ltd’ on a yearly basis to be recognized on an international level as a leader amongst sustainable tourism operators.
