Friday, 04 May 2018 – The Radisson Blu Resort Fiji is focused on proactive measures to assist with employment and growing opportunities for special needs students since the launch of its pilot training program in 2015.
The resort is now on its fourth group of special school recruits with a total of 11 students enrolled so far and 5 students have been hired as full timers at the end of their 6 months training.
“The on the job training for these students provides them with practical skills and training needed for working in the hospitality industry and is also a form of empowerment,” says Julien Racine, Hotel Manager at the Radisson Blu Resort Fiji.
The latest special school training recruits are from the Sunshine Special School in Lautoka. Three promising and bright individuals have been employed into the Housekeeping and Food and Beverage Department, these trainees are Uraia Raividiniu, Jessica Dunn and Meresiana Salato.
“Employment opportunities for special needs students are rare however with our pilot programme the resort aims to change that, increase our intake of special school trainees and be of a positive influence to other establishments” says Julien Racine.
Over the years the Responsible Business Committee have been making several visits to Special Schools in the Western Division with donations and conducting workshops but will continue to take bigger steps to integrate special needs students into the workplace.
“We are proud to have pilot the training programe for special needs students now motivating other hotels to follow pursuit,” says Julien Racine.
Every year the Radisson Blu Resort Fiji continues to boost its Responsible Business initiatives to positively impact the local community. The first quarter of the year was a productive start for the Radisson Blu Fiji team with the construction of new toilets for the children of Nawai Primary School, library set up and donation of projectors, library books and multimedia equipment to Nabila Primary School, Tau Primary School and Nadele Primary School.
The responsible business team are committed to ensuring no tables are left unturned and assistance is fairly shared within the community. The resorts dedication to maintaining its relationship with the local districts has strengthened over time and more projects are in line to increase library set up, distribution of reading books and the number of trainee recruits from Special Schools.
