Partnership creates job opportunities for 300

The Fiji Times, 17 August 2023 – A partnership between the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection and Fiji Marriot Resort Momi Bay has created job opportunities for 300 for the ministry’s social welfare recipients from the 400 available vacancies at the Nadi-based property.

Women, Children and Social Protection Minister Lynda Tabuya announced this on The Fiji Times’ online news platform, The Lens@177 yesterday.

She revealed that the resort has already employed the first lot of street dwellers from the West who were profiled by the ministry.

Ms Tabuya also said the ministry was not moving fast enough to cater to the requirements of the Fiji Marriot Resort Momi Bay and that the onus was now on the ministry to accelerate its processes and provide the human resources to the resort.

The minister said the resort also provided on-the-job training as the vacancies were for entry-level jobs that did not require prior experience.

She said as the tourism and construction sectors were experiencing labour shortages due to the migration of workers through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme, the ministry saw it as an opportunity to fill the gaps with some of its welfare beneficiaries.

Ms Tabuya said the ministry understood that when they assisted one social welfare beneficiary, they were also assisting four to five people out of poverty.
