Pacific Trade Investment Australia – empowering tourism operators with digital skills

PTI Workshop

PTI Media Release – 3rd June, 2019

Following the amazing response from Fiji’s tourism operators last year, Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia is back in Fiji to deliver their  Digital Tourism Workshop in partnership with the Fiji Hotel & Tourism Association. Two workshops will be held next week – Suva on Monday 10 June and Nadi on Thursday 13 June.

The tourism sector is one of the world’s fastest growing industries in the world today and is recognised as a key driver of economic growth and employment opportunities in the Pacific Islands.

There has been a significant shift in the way international tourists research where to travel and how they book all aspects of their holiday. An increasing amount of tourists use the internet as their main source of information with a growing number of tourists opting to make direct bookings with airlines, accommodation providers and tourism operators.

PTI Australia’s Free Digital Tourism Workshop is designed to support local tourism operators in their knowledge of digital marketing and provide practical steps to increase sales and improve profitability.

With the increasing use of e-commerce globally, PTI Australia’s Project Coordinator, Onorina Fugawai encouraged local tourism operators to register for the workshops.

“Last year we had such great feedback from attendees. There is a growing number of travellers who book and pay online; to be successful it’s vital that local tourism operators have an online presence and know how to use the platform effectively.

“I know many operators missed out last year, these free workshops will provide tourism operators with practical skills and knowledge so you can grow your tourism businesses online. We can also support the build of booking capable websites, it’s a huge opportunity. This time we have an expert from Booking.com attending, providing market insights which will be extremely valuable.”

PTI Australia’s Digital Tourism workshops in Suva and Nadi will cover the following topics to help tourism operators enhance their digital presence.

  • Understanding the accommodation buying cycle
  • Leveraging your website to drive more direct sales
  • Instant booking capability
  • Online third party distribution
  • Social marketing
