MORE work needs to be done to get more visitors in Suva says Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) general manager Peter Gee.
Mr Gee said at the moment, only six per cent of all international visitors to Fiji came to Suva.
“This is a very low number. We want to make sure that we are raising the profile of Suva. Suva is so interesting. So much to do and see,” Mr Gee said.
“When we go to the Suva market and the fish market , it’s fascinating. The spice and kava market most of the people don’t even know even if it’s there.
“We’ve got to continue to promote it. Every month , there is changing of guards at the State House. Most people in Suva don’t know about this. We got to spread the word. So much has changed in the last four to five years .”
He said visitor numbers to Fiji continued to increase as new markets were developed with Fiji Airways opening new routes as well.
He said since GPH had re-opened four years ago, the hotel was constantly trying to improve its services.
“We have to continue doing refining. We have done a lot in the Taste of the South Pacific menu at the Prince Albert restaurant . We have been working on the suites and putting more personality because GPH is the grand old lady of the South Pacific and has more history than many other hotels around the world,” he said.
