Fiji Times, 03 February – FISHERIES resources are now at a juncture where action, more than plans are expected to save our coastal and offshore fisheries resources, says Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau.
Mr Koroilavesau was making his introductory speech to members of the public during the 2017 Speaker’s Debate in Suva on Wednesday on “How can Fiji’s fisheries industry be protected to ensure long-term sustainability”.
He said: “The attainment of sustainable development in coastal and offshore fisheries has not been satisfactory up to now. Both of these important sectors are now seriously threatened by over-exploitation, resource depletion and environmental degradation.” Read more…
