There is a great deal of discussion in the business community about the possibility of an increase in the minimum wage and the likely impact this will have on both the business community in Fiji and the workers.
Who does it apply to?
The minimum wage applies only to totally unskilled workers because the labour market, particularly in the West, is very tight and any worker who shows initiative, some degree of common sense and an understanding of the requirements of the task will soon be rewarded with extra money as the employers don’t want to lose someone showing promise.
