Fiji Times, Wed Jan 17th – Regional environmental protection agencies yesterday questioned Fiji’s commitment to oceans and coral health by highlighting the continued removal and destruction of mangroves in the country. Kosi Latu, the head of the inter-governmental agency, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) said while on the one hand Fiji was the leading voice of conservation in the region, interventions, needed “….to look at coral reefs not in isolation, you have got to be looking at other associated things like mangroves — develop and protect mangroves”.
