Fiji Roads Authority, 11 January 2018 – Starting today, both lanes at the new Stinson Parade Bridge is open and traffic to Usher Street may only exit via the Suva Market slip lane.
Fiji Roads Authority General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says only minor traffic movements are expected through Usher Street and must exit via the slip lane.
Large trucks and buses are unable to fit through the Suva Market slip lane.
“The changed layout means that buses and trucks cannot enter through Usher Street; this also includes no buses down Edward Street. The bus stop outside Burger King will be temporarily closed.”
Mr Goes says the FRA regrets this inconvenience for buses entering from the Port end of the city, now required to travel the loop through to Sukuna Park and take Stinson Parade Bridge to the Central Bus Station.
“A long term plan to further change and improve traffic flow through the central city has been prepared with the Suva City Council and will be implemented in due course.”
“The Suva Market entrance on Usher Street will be converted to a Suva City Council controlled car-parking area over the coming weeks. Diagrams of the proposed new traffic layout through the central city area will be made public over the coming weeks.”
Motorists are advised to drive with extra care and attention while they get used to the new road layout.
