‘Fiji deemed ideal venue’ – UN Environment Director

Fiji Times, Thursday, January 18 – FIJI’S great leadership on environmental issues on the world stage has attracted United Nations initiatives to the region. United Nations environment program executive director Erik Solheim said when discussions to launch the International Year of the Reef took place, the Pacific, and Fiji in particular, was considered an ideal venue.”When we wanted to launch the global year for the coral reef, of course, we couldn’t do it in Paris or New York, we had to do it where the coral reefs are. We also have coral reefs in the Caribbean and other parts of the world, but we really wanted to do it in the Pacific.” Read more:
