FHTA Leadership Development Program another Success

FHTA Leadership Development Program another Success

(SUVA, FIJI) Friday, 23rd November 2018 – The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) commenced their 2nd module of the 4th iteration of the Leadership Development Program with Dr Jagdishwar Singh on Monday, 12th November 2018; a four-day program where participants explore their strengths and development needs as managers and leaders, assess their effectiveness and consider new approaches in leading and managing teams, while learning to adopt a more strategic approach in their business roles.

The program has been very well received by industry supervisors and managers for its superior instructional course format as well as Dr Jag’s extensive knowledge in the industry and delivery of relevant and relatable examples and activities. So much so, that FHTA has had to increase the number of times the program was available this year as well scheduling it for its Suva members.

Sai Nabola, Restaurant Manager and one of five supervisory staff who attended from Grand Pacific Hotel, said that the course was a most worthwhile follow on from the training received earlier this year when she participated in the Module 1 sessions. She said that there is no doubt that it will help her to become a better leader and indeed a better person, having gained a clearer understanding on how to more effectively listen and communicate with hotel guests, her staff and the management team. Sai felt that this training provided invaluable knowledge and was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with her industry peers from other hotels and organizations, who all brought different perspectives to the course. Sai highly recommends participation to all middle management staff and was fulsome in her praise for Dr Jag.

The overall Program covers topics for all departmental managers and supervisors including, but not limited to, Marketing & Customer Service, Emotional Intelligence, Strategic Management and Performance Management.

FHTA Administration and Events Officer, Cheryl Chow-Fong who also attended said, “One of the most important lessons from this experience was developing my self-awareness and understanding and gaining another perspective. Following module 1 of the program, I regularly try to apply what I have learnt to assist in understanding and shaping my own behavior and interactions with people in an effort to be an effective team member. I thank the Association and Dr Jag for this development opportunity.”

The Module 2 West Session and 5th iteration of the LDP concluded today in Nadi and FHTA members will be able to access the next round of this Program in 2019 once dates are confirmed.
