Fiji Times, 02 February – THE fisheries department should not decide who gets to fish on traditionally-owned fishing grounds. Their role should be similar to the iTaukei Land Trust Board, to facilitate the interests of customary fishing rights owners and not override their wishes.
Waisea Kaloumaira, the owner of a seafood harvesting business, made the comments yesterday at the first of two central eastern public consultations on the regularisation of goodwill payments to qoliqoli owners by those who purchase inshore fishing licences. Read more…
