Challenges Ahead for Tourism Industry

Fiji Sun, 09 June 2018 – Challenges from global uncertainties, competition from other destinations and the rising cost of doing business among others are issues Fiji’s tourism industry will face in the future.

President of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association Dixon Seeto, in his annual report submitted at yesterday’s annual general meeting at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau, said other challenges included Fiji’s own limitations – infrastructure, manpower and resources.

“While confidence in Fiji’s tourism sector remains buoyant and our visitor numbers continue to surpass expectations, we recognise that sustaining this momentum into the future will be challenging,” he said. Mr Seeto said the Fijian economy had grown for the ninth consecutive year, but slightly slower because of the recent spate of natural disasters while investment activity – as expected – remained firm in 2018. He added that this was forecast to be around 28 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product. Read more…
