The Fiji Times online portal this morning is running a story stating that TD04F was turning back to Fiji. This headline is at best misleading and at worst a complete and total nonsense as no agency is suggesting this at all.

Afternoon Weather Update – Tropical Depression TD04F – 16 December 2016
Tropical Depression TD04F remains very slow moving to the northwest of the Yasawa Islands and slowly intensifies. At 3pm the centre was about 350km northwest of Nadi and while there has been some strengthening of the winds near the centre as pressure falls, it is still not yet a tropical cyclone.

Overnight Weather Update – 15 December 2016
The latest satellite imagery continues to show that TD04F is some ways off becoming a tropical cyclone as the central cloud cover is showing signs of high level wind shear indicating that the intensification is not really happening yet, or at least its only happening very slowly. But rainfall has been significant, at least in parts, with over 200 millimetres reported in the 24 hours to 9am this morning at Navua.
Request for information on commercial long line vessels operating close to outer reefs
It has been highlighted by a number of members that commercial long line vessels have been seen operating very close to the outer reef. This obviously has a huge impact to the fish stocks in the area and the potential damage to the reef’s eco system is huge.
