TOURISM FIJI 27 February 2020 – In light of the current global spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we wanted to keep you well informed with this quick update. The virus, which began to affect China late last year has since spread to 30 countries infecting over 80,000 people.
It is important to note that Fiji has no confirmed cases of the virus as of 27 February 2020. As a precautionary measure, from 28 February, the Fijian Government will widen it’s travel restrictions for all foreign nationals who have visited mainland China, Italy, Iran or Cheongdo County and Daegu City in South Korea, within 14 days of their intended travel to Fiji.
Government is working closely with all international carriers to ensure that any travelers who fall under these restrictions are not permitted to board flights to Fiji at their international departure location. Earlier-announced precautionary measures to maintain a hygienic environment and screen ill passengers will continue to be taken in-flight to further minimise any risk.
In addition, from 28 February 2020 all cruise ships entering Fijian waters will also be required to make first berth at ports in Suva or Lautoka, where all passengers on board will undergo medical and travel history checks.
Tourism Fiji continues to monitor the situation as we work closely with our industry partners, FHTA, SOFTA and the Ministry of Industry Trade and Tourism to mitigate the impact of the virus on Fiji’s tourism industry.
