Airline’s success attributed to team work

Fiji Times, 3rd April – Numerous successes recorded by national carrier Fiji Airways have been possible because of a concerted effort by both staff and stakeholders, says company CEO and managing director Andre Viljoen.

Speaking at the Fiji Airways Group’s 2017 financial results announcement in Nadi, Mr Viljoen said each person had unwaveringly supported the company board and management to ensure the growth of Fiji Airways contribution towards the national economy.

“They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and in business, that crucial first step is having a vision that is indebted and executed perfectly by all the staff and stakeholders,” he said.

“We finalised that vision at the end of 2016 and at the start of 2017, it is an inspiring call to action that underpins the deliverables and Key Performance Indicators(KPI) that we have and we are talking about how we are achieving that vision, to be the most desired, most flown and most profitable airline in the Pacific.

“When we talk about desired, we talk about being loved by our guests for our unique Fijian hospitality. Regarding most flown airline, we’re talking about a continuously increasing network, the destinations that we fly to and the number of times we fly.”

Mr Viljoen said an airline could not succeed in growth if the company was not profitable.

He said to achieve this vision, Fiji Airways developed nine critical success factors, an area which focused on business and had actions and strategies to monitor and improve performances.

According to Mr Viljoen, they recorded many achievements and successes in 2017.

“One of this is safety and security and the focus or intent is to ensure as an airline, we have an uncompromising safety first regime.

“Here, we can talk about how Fiji Link and Fiji Airways have the highest safety certification commercial airlines can have and that is the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Certification and in fact, Fiji Link is the only domestic airline to have an IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) Certification.”

He said to enhance security, cameras were now installed throughout the hangar, including all offices and corridors.
