Nadi, 18 February 2022 – Fijians take to rugby like a fish to water and Fiji’s National Tourism Organization, Tourism Fiji, is delighted to support the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua team as they embark on their maiden voyage.
Tourism Fiji joins thousands of rugby fans in support of the Fijian Drua – the newest team in the Super Rugby Pacific competition that includes such storied teams as the Brumbies, Reds, Waratahs, Crusaders and Blues.
With the first game kicking off on Friday 18th February against the Waratahs, Tourism Fiji Chief Executive Officer Brent Hill says they are proudly working in partnership with the team.
“This is a huge moment for Fiji and Fiji’s proud rugby history. We’re excited to be part of the Drua Sponsor Vuvale! Working in partnership with the Fijian Drua allows us to put Fiji firmly in the minds of rugby fans across Australia and New Zealand – our key source markets. As rugby fans enjoy watching the Fijian flair on the field, Tourism Fiji will be there to inspire them to visit Fiji.”
Pure passion and love of the game are Fiji’s true trademarks – rugby being nurtured in backyards, beaches and villages where every free moment is spent playing. On a trip to Fiji, fans are almost guaranteed to see an impromptu game being played at some point.
The games will be televised globally, allowing exposure for Fiji across the world. Tourism Fiji Chief Marketing Officer Emma Campbell said the partnership was a fantastic way to support the team and promote tourism to Fiji.
“We are really proud to be part of this. We’re all about nurturing talent at Tourism Fiji and this aligns really well with what the new team is all about. We know that the Fijian Drua team will give Fiji great exposure across the world, and we want to jump on that opportunity to tell more people that Fiji is Open for Happiness” Emma explained.
Fijian Drua CEO Brian Thorburn welcomed Tourism Fiji to the Drua family: “This is a brilliant partnership which allows the Fijian Drua and Tourism Fiji to stay showcase the magic of Fiji and all Fijians. Most of our home matches are in Sydney and Southeast Queensland, both of which are key tourism source markets for the country. We are committed to working with the outstanding Tourism Fiji team to generate visitor interest through the thousands of fans attending our matches and many hundreds of thousands more watching in Australia, New Zealand and around the globe. The Fijian Drua and Tourism Fiji will position our home through carefully integrated content to showcase our people and the fact that Fiji is well and truly open for happiness.”
In April 2022, an inaugural home game in Suva will be the perfect opportunity for visitors from overseas to come and experience watching a game in Fiji – an experience not to be missed! In 2023, a further minimum of five games will be played in Fiji attracting even more visitors in the emerging sports tourism market.
