Systems queried

Fiji Times Wednesday 14 June 2017  VARIOUS systems and procedures of resolving work-related complaints and grievances by the Ministry of Employment, Industry and Productivity Relations were questioned yesterday.

This was after the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs received submissions from the employment ministry on a petition on abuse of workers at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel.

In 2015, a petition with several signatories was brought before Parliament highlighting the plight and claims of ill-treatment by staff and former staff members of the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

These claims were made against a former manager of the hotel marred with allegations of bad management and ill-treatment of GPH staff members.

Committee member and Opposition Member of Parliament, Viliame Gavoka, questioned the team from the Employment Ministry whether their systems were structured to notice such nature of complaints and intervene instead it being referred to Parliament.
