Fiji, 15 February, 2023: The 12th World Hindi Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Fiji and India, officially opened today at the state-of-the-art Denarau Island Convention Centre; the largest convention facility in the South Pacific, located at Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort in Nadi.
Over 1200 experts in the Indian language from across the globe are attending the three-day event from 15th to 17th February, themed “Hindi – Traditional Knowledge to Artificial Intelligence”.
More than 50 VIPs from around the world, including Honourable Dr Shri Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs for the Government of India are in attendance, and most are first time visitors to Fiji. The delegation was officially welcomed and accorded a traditional Fijian ceremony at the opening of the conference.
Hon. Jaishankar tweeted,”Deeply honoured to receive the traditional Sevusevu welcome in the presence of President HE Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the inaugural of the 12th VishwaHindiSammelan. Had the first cup of kava with a prayer for the health, peace and prosperity of India and Fiji.”

The decision to host the 12th World Hindi Conference in Fiji, was made at the 11th World Hindi Conference held in Mauritius – securing Fiji as a new launching pad to popularise Hindi globally.
Over the scope of the conference, attendees will discuss Hindi in Indentured Countries, Fiji and the Pacific Region. Topics will include Information Technology, Hindi of the 21st Century & Media and world’s perception of Hindi.
Several exhibitions related to the development of the Hindi language, will be on display at the conference venue. Cultural programmes and Kavi Sammelan, will also be presented by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi.
The conference will conclude on Friday, 17th February 2023.
