Coral Coast, Fiji, 20 April 2018 – Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa has launched its Make a Difference (MAD) project with the installation of six waste disposal platforms for the Laselase Beautification Project. The engineering team from the resort installed the platforms and also landscaped the area which was previously overgrown with makeshift structures.
The project is part of an initiative by Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa to implement six MAD projects in the province of Nadroga in 2018 under Shangri-La’s Embrace Care for People project. In making the announcement the resort General Manager, Mr Francis Lee, said that what was even more inspiring was that the projects that are being implemented were put together by colleagues from various departments.
“We have a very active staff volunteer programme that allows our colleagues to contribute their time and skills to community development,” Mr Lee said. “In 2017 our colleagues carried out a total of over 3,000 volunteer hours in various projects representing close to 130 days of time spent in volunteerism and that is an achievement worthy of mention. “This year we decided to challenge our team even further and asked them to submit proposals for projects that they thought would help the communities they lived in a meaningful way,” Mr Lee said. The Laselase Beautification Project is spearheaded by the women’s committee who are advocates for proper waste disposal in the village.
More than 25 MAD projects were submitted for consideration to management and seven have been selected and integrated into the 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility calendar for Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa.
