Fiji Times Wednesday 24 May 2017 MAJOR pearl producer, J. Hunter pearls is slowly recovering after losing multi-million dollars’ worth of baby pearls to the wrath of Tropical Cyclone Winston last year.
In an interview, the company’s owner, Justin Hunter, said the company was just in its recovery phase when TC Winston hit last year taking away what they had managed to rebuild.
Mr Hunter said the company had lost 30 kilometres of long lines containing baby oysters to TC Thomas while it was earmarked to fully recover by this year.
“In a series of events, we were badly hit by TC Winston last year and this has caused a decrease in our annual production, decreasing exports too as we lost another 30 km of longlines,” he said.
“However we are lucky to be located in Savusavu and have good partnerships with hotel retail customers like Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Namale Resort and Koro Sun, to name a few. Read more…
