Tourism Fiji proudly supported another successful Ocean Swim Fiji event which concluded last month. Each year the event chooses a different program to support and this year they’ve chosen the Shane Gould’s Swimming Project in Fiji.
Last year Ocean Swim Fiji donated swimming gear and some funds to Fiji Swimming Association. Association General Manager, Mr. David Dugucanavanua said the funds were channelled into their Pacific Sports Partnership: Let’s Swim Program which works towards educating local communities on water safety and drowning prevention.
Mr Dugucanavanua added, “The donations provided to us also helped us contribute a large number of new swim caps to various clubs, high schools that attended the 2019 Schools’ Swimming Nationals, and the three open water trials Fiji Swimming hosted in 2019, during the buildup to the Pacific Games, where Matelita Buadromo won a Silver in the women’s 5km Open Water.”
Ocean Swim Fiji 2019 was held from 22nd to 26th August in the Western Division and brought over 200 visitors to Fiji. Event Director, Mr. Scott Rice said they have been pleased with this year’s event turnout.
“A big thank you to our sponsors, partners and participants for making the 2019 event another success! We will also be donating over $2,500 to this program because we believe it’s a worthwhile cause. The work they do is amazing, and we’re happy to support programmes like these,” said Mr. Rice.
