Nadi, Fiji – Friday 22nd March 2024 – Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay will join 190 countries and territories around the world for the Biggest Hour for Earth on Saturday, 23rd March 2024. The resort as part of Marriott International’s portfolio in Fiji continues its commitment to sustainability and pursuit of the company’s core value to ‘Serve our World.’
The resort will switch off non-essential lights across the property for an hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, joining millions worldwide in the collective effort to combat climate change.
Additionally, the solar panels built within the iconic overwater bures will be a prominent feature that illuminates the premium infrastructure demonstrating advocacy to create a positive impact on our Planet Earth.
General Manager Silvano Dressino said, “At Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, sustainability is embedded in our core operations inspiring guest experiences and reinforces our local community linkages.”
He continued, “The resort has been participating in the Earth Hour campaign for the past six years with an average of 120,000-Watt hours saved in the ‘lights off moment’ each year valued at approximately FJD300,000 to date.”
As a leading premium destination for many travelers, Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay continues to champion sustainable initiatives by installing three new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and dedicating parking zones in the porte-cochere for these vehicles. This infrastructure aims to encourage the use of electric vehicles at the resort to reduce carbon footprint, also extending great convenience for transfer companies that have opted for eco-friendly fleet of vehicles to recharge when transferring guests to the resort.
Guest experiences for the Earth Hour Campaign will include a Fijian ‘Black Out’ Iced Tea cocktail with a variety of concoctions throughout the day and a percentage of each cocktail sold will be part of the resort’s proceeds towards ecological projects within the Momi community. These projects include fish house building, mangrove and coral planting, and regenerating Momi’s giant clam sanctuary.
