The Fiji Times, 11 September 2017 – FOREIGNERS intending to purchase or lease land in Fiji have been warned to be vigilant and to verify with authorities of the land’s rightful ownership.
Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources permanent secretary Malakai Finau made the stern warning after an incident involving an Australian lawyer who lost money after he was convinced by a local purpoting to be a chief to lease a piece of land belonging to him when apparently it was not.
Mr Finau confirmed that there had not been any formal complaint received by the ministry and was not aware of whether the land that was sold was freehold, native or State land. Read more…
