Journey of a Cruise Captain – Inspiring stories of Fiji’s Tourism Industry

Fiji Sun, May 4 – South Seas Cruises Marine Operations Manager, Thomas Daniel Moceacagi treasures his time at sea as much as he treasures his family.

The 47-year-old was working for SSC the last 14 years as skipper of Awesome Adventures Yasawa Flyer transferring 240 tourists and managing 15 crew members from Port Denarau in Nadi to resorts in the Yasawas daily before taking up his current post. Originally from Ketei, Totoya in Lau with maternal links to Vagadaci in Ovalau. He has only one daughter.

Straight out of high school, he set his eyes on sailing joining Patterson Brothers Shipping as a ticket collector. From that humble beginning he chased his dreams serving his time out at sea; which was one of the major requirements to captain a marine vessel. (theownerbuildernetwork.co) As it was necessary for him to also have a qualification, Mr Moceacagi did his certificates at the Fiji Maritime Academy and then joined Neptune Shipping Pacific Limited (NSPL) where he worked for a few years.

The birth of his only child, made him realise how important it was to spend more time with his loved ones and family.

After travelling the world with NSPL, he got his first experience of the tourism industry with Tui Tai expedition cruises in Savusavu where he worked for year before joining South Sea Cruises in 1977.
